Comment faire une carte pop-up

We all at one time or another had a book that marked our childhood. Mine was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by Walt Disney. I received it in 1975 when I was only 3 years old. I used to look at it all the time because of the figures that opened inside. One day, I found it at the family house. The children loved it immediately!

Some time ago, I wanted to create a similar project, but I needed the perfect collection to do so. When Graphic45 released Hallowe’en in Wonderland, I couldn’t resist!

Figurine à tirette simple
Simple pull figurine

It takes 3 elements to create a card with a simple pull figurine: a card, a cover the same size as the card and a figurine. To make it work, you must create a space between the card and the cover.

Cut a strip smaller than the figurine and make 2 folds: the first at 1 cm from the edge which we will glue on the figurine and the second at 3.5 cm of the edge which will serve as support on the cover.

Create a slot in the cover the same width as the strip. Its location will vary depending on the size of the figurine and the height you want it to move.

Cut a half circle at the bottom of the cover. This will provide access to the strip.

Glue the cover on the card. Do not glue the opening of the half circle and the strip space.

Cut the half circle of the card and insert the strip through the slot. Once in place, cut the excess of the strip. For this project I wrote TIREZ (PULL) on the tip of the strip.

Élévation verticale, ouverture 180°
Vertical rise, 180° opening

Trim the edges of your centerpiece, leaving 1.5 cm at the bottom for the fold. This last one will serve as support. Fold the centerpiece in two as well as the bottom at 1.5 cm of the edge. Cut a slit between the central and bottom fold. Round the corners.

If you glue your piece at the top of the card, the support must be outside and the drawing folded back. If you glue your piece at the bottom of the card, the support must be inside and the drawing folded forward. Do not glue straight but at a slight angle.

Trim the edges of the small characters. Cut and paste a small strip transformed into a square on the back, at the bottom.

Glue the small characters on your centrepiece. For the sentence hanging in the air, I used the metal wire of a Brilliant Sparkler (candle) for its thinness and strength.
